Fees & Registration

Registration is very easy, and the fees are reasonable. The annual registration for a scout is $160.  This includes registration with Boy Scouts of America association, Boy Scout insurance, Boy's Life magazine, Cub Scout awards, a Pinewood Derby Kit, general pack activities, pack literature, and other supplies. It also provides the base of each den’s budget.  We rely on Popcorn Sales fundraising drive for the remainder of our budget.  Some special activities may require additional funds, such as overnight trips or an outing.

Parents are encouraged to to make additional donations to Boy Scouts of America through the Friends of Scouting campaign, but it is completely optional.

The best way to register is to come to one of our Recruiting Events or Monthly Pack Meeting. We'll be happy to talk to you about Scouting, and will have all the forms you need.  The Recruiting Events are generally held in the fall (Sep) and late spring (May); they will be announced on our Home page.  The Pack meets are held on the third Wednesday every month (September through June) in the multi-purpose room of Argonaut Elementary School, Saratoga. The meetings begin around 6:30PM and go until 7:30PM.

Alternatively, you can also email us at pack508saratoga.ca@gmail.com for registration forms (please put "Registration Question" as email subject).

Cub Scout Uniforms

The Cub Scout uniform is an important part of the program, and your son must have certain parts.  The cost for a boy's uniform is roughly $90. All items are available at the Council Scout Store located at 970 W Julian, San Jose, CA 95126, phone number 408-279-2086, and on the web at  http://svmbc.org/svmbc/south-bay-scout-shop/It's a lot of fun to visit these stores, and doing so supports local scouts council.  However, if you prefer, you can shop online at www.scoutstuff.org

The uniform consists of
  • Shirt (either short or long sleeves)
    • Lions have an official T-shirt.
    • Tigers, Wolves, and Bears wear blue Cub Scout shirt
    • Webelos can wear either the blue Cub Scout shirt or tan Webelos shirt
  • Correct neckerchief and neckerchief slide matching the Scout's rank
  • Cub Scout belt
  • Official Cub Scout pants are required.
  • Hat and Socks are optional
Required patches for the shirt
  • Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council patch  (left shoulder)
  • World Crest patch (left chest)
  • Pack number 508 patch (left sleeve)
  • Den number patch (right sleeve)
  • When Cub Scout earns advancement, he will receive appropriate patches (left pocket)
Additional items Cub Scouts may need include:
  • All Scouts will be given a Class B uniform by the pack for outdoor activities (a Pack 508 T-shirt)
  • Academic and athetic belt loops, when awarded, go on the belt.
The staff at the store is very helpful and will be happy to help you find what you need. To get the correct patches for the uniform, be sure to tell them that you are with Pack 508 in Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council.  They will also want to know what rank your scout is (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos) and your den number.

A guide to the various insignia and patches (and where to put them on a uniform) is available on the BSA Insignia Guide

Cub Scout Handbook

While at the store, you should also pick up the scout handbook for your scout's grade. This is the guide to your year of scouting and will be needed for den meetings as well as to work on patches and advancements.

Adult Uniforms and Handbook

If parents decide to participate as an pack officer, such as Cubmaster,  assistant Cubmaster, or den leader, you would need uniforms too.   The friendly staff at the store will be able to help you find what you need.   You also need an den leader's handbook if you are a den leader.   You might be able to get it from prior den leaders.
